FBSLessons #48 - Born To Die December 01, 2005 |
NEWSLETTER 047 MESSAGEMessage: Born To Die
“And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,” Luke 9:51 At this time of year many begin thinking of the Birth of Christ. Jesus was a Man with a mission. Literally He was born to die. He was to be the sacrifice for the sins of the elect. His entire life was training for this mission. Exactly when He learned Who He was and what His mission involved we don’t know. He was beginning to get the idea by the time He was twelve. As He studied the Word of God, the Holy Spirit revealed the details of Who He was and what He had to do. By the time He began His ministry at 30 years of age, He knew. He knew it by faith - the same way we know spiritual things. When it was time, He had to “set His face” and steel His will. It was no easy thing He had to do. He knew going into it that He would suffer physically, mentally, and spiritually more than any man had or would ever suffer this side of death. It was His assignment from God the Father and He was determined to fulfill it. God has also put us on this planet for a purpose and a mission. Regardless of how long we have been saved or what our circumstances are, God has a purpose. Some of you may already know your mission, others are still working on discovering it. Whatever our position, we need to focus on learning and applying the Word of God and prayer. We will discover and/or develop our mission as we spend time with God. Sometimes we become so involved in “activities” or the business of living that we no longer have time to spend studying the Word and pray. We must remember that this life is an investment in our eternal life. Or to put it another way, this life is the seed we plant and after death we see what kind of plant it will blossom into. For many who do study the Bible it is limited to “end times” or “self-improvement” type of subjects. Now, it is important to have a correct “end times” view - if you’ve read my site at all you have know my opinion on this. Also, the Bible is very practical on how to bring healing and improvement into our lives and this is important, too. However, if we are to reach the fullness of our mission in God we must go deeper. Bible study isn’t just about us. We need to work on understanding the various doctrines. We need to put effort into understanding the whole Word of God. It is a lifetime effort. But as we work on it God will lead and guide us. Prayer Requests Pastor Ratnam from India has asked for prayer since his church and many homes in his district have been flooded. Davy J. from Canada has asked for prayer for healing. He is suffering from Chronic Pancreatitis, a bad liver, and Hepatitis C, and is now addicted to pain killers. Announcements Free Bible Study Lessons continues to grow. We topped the 1,000 “hits” a month mark with visitors from over 25 countries around the world. The Genesis and John Blogs seem to be popular - don’t miss them! I am just finishing up a report on What Is A Just War? It should be on-site in a couple of weeks. The next report will probably be: The Bible As Hate Literature. Canada and some other countries are close to regarding the Bible as hate literature. The next step would be to “edit” it or ban it. This report will look at the truth of the matter. Also, I am very close to finishing another free e-mail course: The Westminister Confession. This will take the student through the Westminister Confession which examines the basics of the Christian faith. There are “tons” of Scripture references for the students to look up and study.
God bless you,
