Build Your Ark

“Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. ” Gen. 6:14

God came to Noah and instructed him to make an ark. It had to be made in a certain way and within a certain time limit. Noah’s life was changed. If he had been accepted by his friends before, now he was laughed at. He became the crazy old man building a boat on dry land because he had heard voices in the air. It was a lonely and difficult job, but he did it because he knew it was God’s purpose for his life. You and I are here today because one man listened to God and obeyed.

God has an ark for you to build. He placed you here on earth for a purpose. It may not be as dramatic as Noah’s purpose was, but God has a vital part in His plan for you to play. No one else will be able to do it. God’s mission for you may or may not seem foolish to those around. You may have to go it alone, or you may have a team with you. The important question is: Are you going to build your Ark or will others suffer for your disobedience?

This question is so important that it is the only question that Jesus is going to ask us at Heaven’s gates. He will not ask how many people we lead to Christ. He will not ask if we were successful in life. He will not ask how much money we donated. He will not ask how big of a church we attended or worked in. He is only going to ask: Did you build your Ark? In other words, did you do what I asked you to do? Nothing else matters. Obedience is the bottom line issue.

If we are obedient, then we are successful in God’s eyes no matter how it looks to the world. We may win a million people to the Lord or we may witness to 5 people who laugh in our face. Either way if we are doing what God told us to do, we are successful and will be rewarded.

Of course, we realize that God’s first requirement is to repent of our sins and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Until we have done that, we are clueless about the will of God. But after that, you have an Ark to build. Are you building it or just putting in time? In eternity, will your life count for something of nothing? Obedience is the key.
