Christian Relationships

The Bible teaches about all Christian relationships. It shows us how to deal with our marriage, our family, our friends, our work. Sometimes we are tempted to think that the Bible only deals with "spiritual" things. We are tempted to discount it as applying only for pastors or super-spiritual people. To think that the Bible can talk of Christian relationships in a practical way and the God actually expects obedience from "ordinary" Christians, is a new idea to some. Others scoff at the Bible viewing it as impractical and old-fashioned in a modern world. Nothing could be further from the truth and Satan is delighted when Christians fall for such lies.

Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.
I wait for your salvation, O LORD, and I follow your commands.
I obey your statutes, for I love them greatly.
I obey your precepts and your statutes, for all my ways are known to you. [Ps. 119:165-168, NIV]

It is only as we love and follow the Word of God that nothing can make us stumble. It is God's Word that gives us wisdom in difficult and trying times.

Pay attention: I'm teaching you the rules and regulations that God commanded me, so that you may live by them in the land you are entering to take up ownership. Keep them. Practice them. You'll become wise and understanding. When people hear and see what's going on, they'll say, "What a great nation! So wise, so understanding! We've never seen anything like it." [Deut. 4:5-6, The Message]

Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. [Joshua 1:7-8, NIV]

The Armour of God [Eph. 6] is for everyday situations, not the super battles of the elite. The Bible's practical answers are built on an understanding of Biblical law [see Is Biblical Law Valid Today?]. God explains how life, including Christian relationships, work. It is His desire that we be successful in every area of life; however, He knows that can only happen as we follow His instructions for how He designed the universe to operate. The law is actually a gift of God's grace to let us know how things work together for the best results!

Christian relationships do not mean we are dealing only with Christians. It answers the question: As a committed disciple of Jesus Christ, how do I handle all of my relationships with others - Christian and non-Christian?
