God's Workmanship

"For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Eph. 2:10, NIV

Common Sense Promo
We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.

For we are God’s workmanship - Adam was specially designed by God.  The Bible says that God formed him from the dust of the earth, unlike the rest of creation which was spoken into existence.  This implies that God took special time when He created Adam [and later Eve from a rib].  Mankind is God's special workmanship.  They are the peak of His creation.

Paul lets us know that not only is this true of Adam and Eve, but also everyone one of us is a special work of art from the hands of God.  [Abortion is Satan's murderous attack on God's favoured creation.]  No matter how you feel about yourself, you are a special creation of God.  Yes, after Adam and Eve, we were all born in the "normal" way, but God still specially designed us - and gave two other human beings the privilege of working with Him in the miracle of birth.

created in Christ Jesus - While this is true in a general sense of every human being, it is doubly true of the Christian who has not only received physical life from God, but also spiritual life.  Spiritual life is only possible through Christ Jesus - the One Who loved us and gave His life for us.  We are re-created in Him as new creatures.   The old and sinful nature died when God re-birthed us in Jesus.  We view the world with new and fresh eyes.

to do good works, - Now we have a purpose.  We are no longer to be looking out for "number one."  We are created and re-created to do good works.  The first good work, of course, is to believe on Jesus Christ through the gift of faith [John 6:28-30].  Beyond that, God has set us into this world to reveal His love through acts of loving service to others.  He designed us and placed us at this moment of history and in a particular part of the world for His own purpose.  Our mission, through the power of the Holy Spirit, is to make this world what God intended it to be.  We all have different interests and abilities, but we are to work where God has placed us without criticizing others who may not have our particular focus.

which God prepared in advance for us to do. - We are not stumbling along in this trying to do good works to please God or earn salvation.  That is legalism.  It is because we are already saved and living under God's smile that we want to do good works.  And we are not making this up as we go along!  God, Himself, has already planned out what He wants us to do.  He has given us a mission, a unique way to reveal His glory that only we can fulfill.  We have to find His will and pursue it in our lives.  His will is revealed as we develop our relationship with Him, study His Word, walk in obedience to what we already know and work diligently at everything we put our hands to.
