Revelation Symbols Dictionary
The Book of Revelation symbols were not intended to be confusing. They were understood quite clearly by the first Christians, although their meaning was soon lost. For the most part, the visions draw upon symbols which were used in the Old Testament - a book with which the Jewish Christians were very familiar. In our seeking to understand the meaning behind the revelation symbols we must first go to the scriptures and discover how the symbols were applied in other cases. Then we can begin to understand how they fit into the Book of Revelation. Scripture is always our first and final guide. In the few cases where the symbols are not previously used symbolically in Scripture we must examine with greater care the context, the original meaning of the word, and contemporary history. I have tried in this dictionary to provide as much proof as possible or I felt necessary to establish the meaning of the symbols. In the majority of cases I have tried to summarize the definition into a word or phrase - for those who only want a quick definition - and then go on the establish in more detail why I believe the symbol means what it does. At the end of the definition, in {} is a list of all references of that word in the KJV of Revelation.
