PAUSE this video and read Chapter Eleven of your textbook: Do Not Be Afraid! - Walking With God. Be sure to pray the prayer at the end of the chapter.
This is a very important chapter. You may want to read it three or four times to absorb its contents. Start practicing the seven steps of intimacy with God.
I wanted to add something to Step Five: Wait on the Lord. We need to be open to however God wants to speak to us. If we are closed to an avenue, then we limit God’s ability to speak to us in that way. For example, if we don’t believe that God can speak to us through dreams, we will tend to automatically reject anything that comes to us in dreams.
One way that many people are learning to hear from God is by journaling. As you are sitting in the presence of God, have a pen and paper handy [or a diary]. As you focus on God, write down the thoughts that come to you. You can also write down questions and wait in God’s presence for answers, which you also write down.
Writing down dreams or anything you believe God is saying to you by any method is important for several reasons.
First, if you immediately try to judge whether what you think you are hearing from God is from God, you will stop the flow. If you write it down, you can do so with confidence that you will be able to judge it later and therefore keep the flow of thoughts going.
Second, you will be able to remember and draw encouragement from it later, showing that you value what God says to you.
Third, what God says is often motivational, encouraging, and enlightening. However, it does need to be judged, especially if it is instructional. You know God is never going to condemn you - if you feel condemnation [as opposed to conviction], you know it is not from God. You know God is never going to contradict what He has already said in Scripture. If it feels “off” or is giving you instructions, then you should check it out with a mature, trusted Christian brother or sister to get their perspective.
Our imaginations are a gift from God; however, the devil loves to twist them with his fear. We must learn how to bring every thought into captivity to Jesus Christ. When we realize our thoughts are getting away from us and going in the wrong direction, we need to stop and take control of them immediately.
PAUSE this video and read Chapter Twelve of your textbook: Do Not Be Afraid! - The Power Of The Holy Spirit. Be sure to pray the prayer at the end of the chapter.
Blame shifting is a trap we can all fall into. We must take responsibility for our attitudes and actions. No one makes us get angry, for example. They may do something that irritates us, but we are the ones who choose to respond with anger. The only person in the world that you can control is yourself. We need to constantly pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal where we need to change and to empower us to make those changes—no more excuses. God created you to be a King or Queen and reign in life.
We will all be tempted to give up from time to time. There is a story told about Sir. Winston Churchill, giving a speech at a school. He had a three-point message. His first point was: Never Give Up. He looked at his audience and figured it didn’t need any further explanation, so he moved on to his second point: Never Give Up. That seemed self-explanatory, so he moved to his third point and conclusion: Never Give Up. Then he sat down.
We need to take this simple yet profound statement to heart. Never Give Up. When do you give up? Never! When we are fighting the enemy of our souls, surrender is not an option. We need the courage of Josheb-Basshebeth [2 Sam. 23:8]. He went into battle at 800 to 1 odds… and won!
What kind of odds are you facing? How can you win? Through the power of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you as a Christian.
Remember the Father loves you as if you were Jesus Christ Himself. You are blessed.
