Some of us have a hard time with the concept that Jesus likes us.  We may accept His love in general, but the idea that He wants to spend time with us because He loves us seems impossible.  After all, we know what we are really like… and many times, it is not pretty.  And we recognize that Jesus knows us better than we know ourselves—so how could He really like us?

One of the fears people have, and one of the reasons we wear masks, is that we are afraid that if someone really knows us, they will reject us.  Some of us may even have felt rejected by others because of exposure of something in our lives.

Read Eph. 1:3-11.

God chose you before He even created the world.  He designed you because He wanted to have a relationship with you.  Not only that, but He created you to be holy and blameless.  Through the blood of Jesus Christ, we are holy and blameless in His sight.  As the Father comes to have a relationship with us, He sees us as pure as if we were His beloved Son, Jesus Christ.  And we can come into His presence and enjoy Him because sin can not hold us back - unless we allow it to.  Let the thought that God likes you seep into your mind.

Read Rom. 8:11

The fact that the Holy Spirit lives in each Christian is very important.  There is nothing we face in life that we face alone.  God, Himself, is living in us.  This is hard to comprehend because we do not feel any different.  It is something we have to take by faith.  Every Christian has the Holy Spirit residing within and can develop a relationship with Him.  There is a special filling of the Holy Spirit that is many times evidenced by speaking in tongues and gives power to be witnesses for God.   If you have not yet received this gift, begin asking God for this infilling.  He wants to give it to you.

However, it is vital to know that not experiencing this gift does not make you a second-class citizen in the kingdom of God, and it does not mean the Holy Spirit isn’t living inside you right now—waiting and wanting an intimate relationship with Him.

And remember, this is not like the New Age and other religions, where you have self-confidence and are trying to pull something out of yourself.  You are not self-speaking/actualizing.  You are communicating by faith with the very Real Jesus Christ Who lives inside of you by the Holy Spirit.

One of the hardest things to do is talk about our fears.  The devil would like us to keep it all inside, where he can torment us with thoughts and pictures that keep circling around in our minds.  I know you all know what I am talking about.  Sometimes we are afraid others will reject us if we expose our fears, other times we don’t want to appear weak in front of family or friends.  We feel we need to be strong for others.  I certainly know how that feels, but attacks of fear in my own life have motivated me to confess what I struggle with to my wife and others - sometimes verbally, sometimes by writing it out.  In any case, getting your fears out helps you face, evaluate, and overcome them.

I want to remind you of a vital key.  Don’t spend a lot of your time focusing on negative news reports or negative social media.  Think about the positive and good things.  Meditate on Scripture.  Have close friends and activities that build your life, not tear it down.
