PAUSE this video and read Chapter Thirteen of your textbook: Do Not Be Afraid! - The Marvellous Grace Of Our Loving Lord.  Be sure to pray the prayers in the chapter.

As it says in the textbook, His grace is His favour that is poured out upon His children, even when we do not deserve it.  Just as with forgiveness and our relationship with Jesus, there is nothing we can do to earn it.  God gives it freely.  That takes a burden off our shoulders.  Grace is not based on works!

The word grace is used 124 times in the Bible; 114 of those times are in the New Testament.  We live in a time when, because of the Blood of Jesus Christ shed on Calvary and His resurrection, we can experience the abundant grace of God.

Read Heb. 4:16 - Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.  NIV

God does not give us grace to handle things that might happen or are in the future.  His Grace is present in our time of need.  Fear tries to get us to borrow tomorrow’s trouble or potential trouble into today.  But grace to handle tomorrow’s problems or potential problems is not available today.  It will be available when tomorrow becomes today!

Remember the Words of Jesus in Matt. 6:34: Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.  Or as the Message words it: “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.”

God has given us the power to choose what to think about.  We must choose to think about positive things rather than the fearful thoughts thrown at us.  During the course, you have memorized many Scriptures.  When the fearful thoughts attack you, ask God for His grace and repeat, out loud if possible, verses you have memorized.  Meditate on them.  Every time your thoughts stray to your fears, bring them back.  If nighttime is especially bad—as it often is—go to bed, repeating Scripture until you fall asleep.  Have soft worship music playing—Scripture in song is especially good.

God’s grace will carry you through.  Do not give up.

Read Neh. 6:10-13.

We don’t know whether Nehemiah felt fear here.  Likely, he did.  Certainly, this evil man was trying to use fear - fear of death - to manipulate him into actions that would be seen as cowardly.  Nehemiah boldly stated: I WILL NOT GO!.  He had a holy stubbornness in the way of God.  Notice that it was not until after he made his stand that he realized it had been a trick.  When he made his decision, for all he knew, there really was an assassin after him.  Oftentimes, that's the way it is.  We will not conquer fear or achieve victory until we decide not to give in to it, regardless of the cost.  There is a common saying: Do what you fear.  Many times, that is what we must do, in the strength and grace of the Holy Spirit, to be free from fear.

PAUSE this video and read Chapter Fourteen of your textbook: Do Not Be Afraid! - The Victorious Life.  Be sure to pray the prayers in the chapter.

Satan wants us to think that defeat is inevitable - whether we are talking about fear or some other sin.  He wants us to focus on our dismal track record because he knows that if we are forced into it, we will lose again.  Lift your eyes to Jesus.  Victory is achievable.  In fact, Jesus has already achieved it.  And He lives inside of us by the Holy Spirit.  Victory is ours through Jesus Christ.  He doesn’t fail.  We must believe and act on it.

There was a commander in WWII who the enemy totally surrounded.  His words to his men were: “For the first time in the history of this campaign, we can now attack the enemy in any direction.”  If you feel surrounded by your enemies, consider that they can’t escape you now!  You and Jesus can attack in any direction.  And Jesus has never lost a fight.
